A New Era in the Los Angeles Dodgers

As we all woke up on a Tuesday morning on November 4th, 2014, most Los Angeles Dodger fans expected this to be just another day but what we didn’t know was coming, came into a clear picture for all of us fans. A NEW ERA. At 7:03 pm pacific time, mlb.com representative Ken Gurnick sent out a tweet that could be heard throughout the social media world loud and clear. The tweet said the following: “Dodgers will name Oakland’s Farhan Zaidi the new general manager later this week, according to baseball source.” The tweet immediately got over 300 retweets and 200 favorites. ESPN began reporting the story as did various sports sites and writers.

So what does this all mean for the Los Angeles Dodgers front office? Does this mean we will be playing “money ball” or will we be playing the same ole Dodger song? Well with Zaidi at the helm, expect something that we have not seen in a long time. A smarter, more reliable and more passionate General Manager. Zaidi has a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology or better knows as M.I.T. Zaidi also owns a P.H.D. In economic from California Berkeley. In early February, Zaidi was promoted to become the assistant General Manager and Director of operations of the Oakland A’s, and handled a big workload of current Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beans moves. Zaidi played a big part in acquiring Yoenis Cespedes before he was later traded to Boston for Jon Lester. Zaidi previously served as business development associate for Small World Media, the fantasy sports division of The Sporting News, and also worked as a management consultant for the Boston Consulting Group.

Now with Andrew Friedman, Josh Byrnes who recently joined the front office, and Zaidi at the helm of the Los Angeles Dodgers, this is a new era for Dodger baseball, where the team will be smarter, faster and more analytical going into the season, the scary part? These 3 men have never had a organization who had sufficient funds to spend to create a winning franchise.

So yes Dodger fans, the times are changing. The days of the Dodgers not bringing a title back to Los Angeles are on the way out. Lets hear what you all think of the front office. Please sound off below.

  1. The Dodgers need to sign Johnny Almaraz away from the Atlanta Braves. He has all the experience about Latin players. His resume speaks for itself. There is no better Latin American baseball scouting director in major-league baseball.
