Dodgers Grind Out Series Win Against Padres

It wasn’t exactly pretty, but the Dodgers beat the Padres Thursday in what started as a pitching dual and ended with a nail-biter as Kenley Jansen locked down the 3-2 victory, getting his NL-leading 26th save of the season.

The Dodgers officially took first place after the victory as the Diamondbacks slipped into 2nd with their loss to Colorado. The NL West remains tight, with Arizona just a ½ game back and the Giants and Rockies tied for 3rd, both just three games behind L.A.

In injury news, Justin Turner will sit out Friday’s game against the Halos, having injured his hip going after a ground ball Thursday night in the ninth. The Dodgers DL is currently overflowing with relief pitchers: Pedro Baez, Tony Cingrani, Josh Fields, Tom Koehler, Yimi Garcia and Adam Liberatore are all sidelined, as is starter Hyun Jin Ryu.

The bevy of injuries is likely complicating the Dodger’s trade situation as the pursuit of Manny Machado continues to top the list of deadline trade deals in the works.

The Dodgers wrap up the first half of the season and face the Angels again for three games in Los Angeles. Game time Friday is 7:10 pm, PST.
