Dodgers sign Cuban infielder Hector Olivera to a six year $62.5 million deal

The Dodgers have added another Cuban to their organization. They agreed to terms with Hector Olivera, on a six year $62.5 million dollar deal. There is a signing bonus of $28 million. Olivera is slotted to play third base. Interest in the Cuban infielder was well documented throughout the offseason with teams such as the San Diego Padres and the Atlanta Braves linked to Olivera. The Dodgers used their financial might to outbid other teams. The deal is pending a physical.

The Dodgers were also able to target Olivera without going over the international bonus pool limit.

Olivera must obtain a visa before entering the organzation. He will most likely start in the minor leagues and will hopefully be one of the solutions for the Dodgers when the infield opens up. Uribe is in his last year of his contract and Jimmy Rollins/Howie Kendrick are free agents after this year. Olivera might end up at third next year, with Corey Seager at Shortstop and a combination of Howie Kendrick (if resigned)/Alex Guerrero at 2B.
