Dodgers Take First Game from the Mets with the Long Ball

The Dodgers beat the Mets Friday at Citi Field in New York after a pitchers dual between Alex Wood and  Zack Wheeler kept the game scoreless through five.

Cody Bellinger crushed his 2nd career grand slam in the top of the sixth on an 0-2 pitch from Wheeler.

“I was just thinking of hitting the ball and I got it on the barrel,” said Bellinger, “good things can happen when you don’t try too hard.”

Bellinger has slumped on and off since the beginning of the season, but also said he hasn’t tweaked his swing much, instead concentrating on the mental aspects of the game.

“It’s a cat and mouse game,” he said, “one of the hardest games to play.”

The Mets answered in short order with a 2-run from Jose Bautista in the sixth but failed to score again.

Yasiel Puig hit a solo shot in the top of the ninth and closer Kenley Jansen shut things down to get his 19th save of the season.

The Dodgers face the Mets again tonight; game time is 4:15 pm, PST.
