Don’t Stop Yasiel Puig Now

Don’t Stop Yasiel Puig Now

MLB: Spring Training-Oakland Athletics at Los Angeles Dodgers

Like a shooting star leaping through the sky, the ‘Wild Horse’ aka Yasiel Puig took Los Angeles by surprise during his first week back in June 2013. During his first month with the Dodgers he astonishingly batted for eight home runs and a .436 batting average; Havana, Cuba has arrived, said Vin Scully. Nonetheless Yasiel Puig’s explosiveness and expectations have diminished since then; behavioral issues on and off the field have gathered him misconceived attention.

On a collision course,  Yasiel Puig has failed to live to the expectations that were initially set. Stints at the disabled list and several incidents off the field, reckless driving charges, and altercations with several teammates have tarnished his role as a key player in the Dodgers lineup. A fresh start is what Yasiel needs, and that is what he’s going to get as Los Angeles have found a new manager in former Dodgers player, Dave Roberts.

The skipper has showed his excitement towards working with number 66, he mentioned that he will indeed grant him a new beginning and wants him to be himself. Andrew Friedman also mentioned that he considers Yasiel Puig a key part of the Dodgers organization going into the future. A consistent and healthy 2016 season to reassure his place in Los Angeles, is what he desperately needs, and for him to believe that he can be one of baseball’s premiere players.

Going into the new season, the Dodgers need some offensive explosiveness early on to support their carousel of a starting rotation. The ‘Wild Horse’ needs to be an integral part of the lineup and contribute as a key player, the talent is there it just needs to be supported. Dodger fans don’t need a 40/40 season from him, they just want a conscious Yasiel Puig delivering on a daily basis; the key towards his success is patience, so all we need to do is sit and enjoy some bat flips.
