Perhaps its overuse is finally catching up with the Dodgers bullpen. After Caleb Ferguson’s shaky, 1 2/3 inning start on his MLB debut in which he gave up 4 runs, the bullpen didn’t fare much better. Even after homeruns by the red hot Matt Kemp, lukewarm Cody Bellinger, and another rally spurned on by walks, two wild pitches and a balk in the later innings, the Dodgers dropped the 2nd game of the series, 11-9.

“Overall tonight, we didn’t pitch well,” Manager Dave Roberts said after the game. “There’s only so much an offense can do.”

And an impressive offense it was, but not enough to get the two needed runs in the ninth with 2 two on and the go-ahead run at the plate. Kemp came up with one out and lined out to second, followed by Bellinger who grounded out to end the game.

The Dodgers face the Pirates again on Thursday, 9:35 a.m. PST.
