Per Dodgers Official Press Release:

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers today claimed catcher Ryan Lavarnway from Boston and designated catcher Drew Butera for assignment.

Lavarnway, 27, appeared in 97 big league games with Boston from 2011-14 and has compiled a .283/.375/.479 slash line in 570 games in seven minor league seasons in the Red Sox organization. In 2014, when he was limited by a strained left wrist, he combined to hit .285 with a .389 on-base percentage, four homers and 24 RBI in 67 combined minor league games, while also appearing in nine games with Boston. The Burbank native and graduate of El Camino Real High School (Woodland Hills) was originally selected by the Red Sox in the sixth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of Yale University.

Butera appeared in 61 games with the Dodgers last year and played in 65 total games with the club after he was acquired from Minnesota at the 2013 trade deadline in exchange for Miguel Sulbaran.
