Dodgers Rumors: Dodgers Targeting Jose Fernandez

UPDATE2: If the Dodgers are to land Jose Fernandez it is going to take some creativity from Andrew Friedman and the Dodgers Front Office. The Arizona Diamondbacks struck again and landed Shelby Miller from the Atlanta Braves. Miller was also on the Dodgers list of potential trades. The Diamondbacks gave up Ender Inciarte, Aaron Blair and Dansby Swanson the Number one overall pick in the 2015 Major League Draft.

So we know a deal for Fernandez would probably cost Julio Urias but then Joe Frisaro Miami Marlins Beat Writer sent out this tweet.

So yeah, looks like that deal won’t be happening. Update: Ken Rosenthal just tweeted Dodgers have discussed adding a third team to satisfy the Marlins on Fernandez. We mentioned earlier today this could be something the Dodgers would look into.

The latest rumor comes in this statement: The Dodgers are targeting Jose Fernandez.  It has been a busy few days for the Dodgers. They lost their Co-Ace Zack Greinke to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Dodgers have reportedly signed Hisashi Iwakuma to a three-year deal and trade talks for Aroldis Chapman have been put on an indefinite “Hold” as Domestic violence accusations were discovered. It was reported early yesterday that Chapman was traded to the Dodgers for two prospects, but discovery of Chapman’s alleged domestic violence issue has left the trade in limbo. So are the Dodgers looking to make a splash and trade for the Miami Marlins Ace Jose Fernandez? The Marlins have said he is unavailable and the asking price would be enormous. Reportedly the Marlins were asking for Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager. It is said Dodgers are adamant against trading away the young shortstop. Today though in a new article by Jon Heyman he says the teams though are open to discussions. The deal is said to be centered around young pitching prospect Julio Urias and a large package of young players. As reported earlier the Marlins are asking for so much that it is believed they are not willing to part with Fernandez. The discussions are open and as we have seen with past Dodgers trades they can get other teams involved and make it happen.

Jose Fernandez is just 23 years old and coming off Tommy John surgery. He came back last year and had a record of 6-1 with a 2.92 ERA. In 64.2 innings had 79 strikeouts and 14 walks.

Lets see how this plays out at the remainder of the Winter Meetings.
