Fernando Valenzuela will receive the Othli Award at the Consulate General of Mexico

Dodger Broadcaster Fernando Valenzula will join the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles at Copa Ime Becas and will receive the Othli Award on December 6th, 2014

 

WHAT:          Dodger broadcaster Fernando Valenzuela will support the Copa IME Becas, an event presented by the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles, tomorrow at Rio de Los Angeles State Park starting at 12:00 p.m. Valenzuela will also be presented with the Othli award from the Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior (IME), an agency of the Mexican government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

                        The Othli award recognizes those who have had a significant impact on the lives of the Mexican community abroad and is awarded by the government of Mexico. Valenzuela was selected for his success in MLB and for inspiring generations of young athletes both in Mexico and in the U.S. Valenzuela will be presented with the Othli by Los Angeles’ Consul General of Mexico Carlos Manuel Sada at 1:30 p.m. on the main stage. Los Angeles City Councilmember Gil Cedillo and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti will also partake in the Copa IME Becas on-stage program.

The IME Becas program is a scholarship program funded by the Mexican government to assist students of Mexican descent who wish to further their education. Copa IME Becas, a free community festival, begins at 8:00 a.m. and Valenzuela will be on hand at 12:00 p.m. to support the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles and receive the Othli award.
